Kula and her new family are on their way to many happy years together.
Georgie is curled up next to his new friend, despite the much larger and empty bed right next to him!

Happy Endings
We want you to know that your donations make a real difference in the lives of animals.
100% of the donations we receive are used to fund the rescue, re-homing or medical
care of animals in need. Below, is an update on those that your donations have helped.
Thank you for your generosity.
In April of 2009 we were alerted to 13 dogs in a small, rural shelter that were in immediate
danger. Fortunately the shelter manager was sick on the Friday that they were to be
euthanized. That gave us the entire weekend to work towards securing homes for as many of
the dogs as we could. Thanks to the generosity and endless compassion of the animal rescue
community we were able to secure homes or rescues for all of the 13 dogs.
Wasco Shelter Rescue - Kern County
Thanks to DAWG, The Penny Foundation, Labs & Buddies, Best Friends, Paw Parent and Barks
of Love for stepping up and committing to a dog from Wasco. The dogs have all been pulled
and transported (thanks to DeAnn Turner and Teresa Morrow for transporting) and some have
already been adopted into permanent homes.
"Kula" (pictured above and below ) was in a small, poorly ventilated and dirty shelter within 24 hours of her last day to live. Now she, and the other dogs
from Wasco pictured below, are happily enjoying life outside the shelter.
The Wasco shelter, like many rural shelters, has very few resources and could use support. They need donations of food,
blankets, dog bowls, flea & tick medication and they can always use volunteers. Please let us know if you can help and we'll
direct you as to how to do so.
Boo

Boo was found wandering the San Pedro Harbor area. This 10 yr old pit bull was
emaciated and scarred all over his body. When he was brought into the shelter, they put
him immediately on the redlist meaning he would be euthanised soon. The shelter did not
bother to give him a chance to get adopted, after all who would want a 10 yr old, skinny
and scarred pit bull? A volunteer felt she had to make an effort for Boo - even if only to
let someone know that he existed. We received her plea and did not want this to be the
end for this dog. Life had obviously not been kind to him thus far and we wanted him to
have a chance to experience kindness, love and joy.
We brought him home Halloween weekend (thus the name) and Alison Hansen agreed to
foster him for a couple weeks. In that time, she began to put weight on him, took him for
daily walks and runs on the trail and showed him that life isn't always cruel. Today Boo is a
permenent resident of Shadow's Fund and is being fostered by a volunteer who loves him
very much. He lives with a senior female pitbull named Precious and the two of them spend
their days sniffing around the yard, napping in the sunlight and watching tv on the sofa next
to their foster dad. Boo's bad days are behind him now and we love seeing his sweet smile
everyday.
Dude & Rocko

When Hope's family dumped her at the shelter, this 13 yr old dog was not only malnourished,
but pregnent. She gave birth the next day in the shelter to two puppies. The shelter did not
have room to keep a mom and puppies so we committed to all three of them. A loving family
fostered them while the pups were nursing. Once weaned, Hope went to live on a ranch with
a wonderful lady and lots of other dogs and animals. She is very happy and will have a great
final chapter of her life. The two pups- Dude and Rocko - have both been adopted and are
very loved by their families. The youngsters will never have to go through what their mom
experienced and they have a long and happy life ahead of them.
Missy

Missy lived the first year of her life on the streets with a homeless person. When Animal Control
picked her up, she has a badly injured front leg - likely from an auto accident. Though she was
sweet, friendly and loveable, families that visited the shelter kept walking past her cage. No one
wanted a dog with a front leg that dangled from the shoulder down. Her time was up, and this
sweet and beautiful 1 yr old dog was going to die simply because of her injury. So we pulled her
from the shelter and immediately had several vets and orthorpedic specialists look at her leg. The
consensus was that the leg needed to be amputated.

Missy recovered wonderfully from surgery and ran and played the same as 4 legged dogs. She was
fostered for several months by a wonderful couple who took great care of her. She now lives with
her forever family who love her very much. She is a happy girl and will have a beautiful life. The best
part is that she was adopted by relatives of her foster family - so she still gets to enjoy visits from
the foster family she loves.
